Straighty Flanagan sings Spancil Hill

Spancil Hill Fair in County Clare has been running for over 300 years and will be celebrated next Tuesday 23 June 2015. There have been many versions of the well-known song associated with the fair recorded over the years, most famously by Robbie McMahon. Michael ‘Straighty’ Flanagan from Inagh gives a rendition of ‘Spancil Hill’ in the Singers and Songs of County Clare section of Clare County Library’s website. Straighty uses his own air – an air which he uses for a number of his songs – suggesting that he learned the song from print rather that by ear:
